Finally, some Answers!

Aug 8
Hope everyone had a great weekend! I got to spend mine with friends and family, which is always a good time. I’ve been receiving some great feedback from readers and I’d like to address some of your questions in this post. The questions I get asked most often are for recommendations for products that I have mentioned on the site. I don’t always name the exact brand I use – but I’m quickly realizing that maybe I should! So, here is a summary of the products I use for myself and for my family:

SunscreenKINeSYS SPF 30 Ointment with Pure Zinc Oxide

This is a 100% mineral block that contains 25% pure zinc oxide. It provides both broad UVA and UVB coverage with good, lasting stability. While it is a cream base, you have to keep in mind that it’s a sunblock so does have a thicker consistency than you might be used to. Because it contains all natural ingredients and is preservative free, it works for the whole family and we don’t have to worry about getting ‘baby’ sunscreen (a genius marketing gimmick!). There are other KINeSYS products out there but this is our family’s favourite.

Whey Protein – NanoPro

This is a very high quality, highly palatable whey protein that is low in fats and carbohydrates. It doesn’t matter how much protein powder you put into your body if you’re not absorbing it! That is why it’s so important to buy a high quality protein that your body will actually absorb as opposed to just wasting money on a product that isn’t doing you any good, no matter how many scoops you think you’re taking. NanoPro is designed by an ultrafiltration process to prevent the protein from breaking down and becoming inactive. Not to mention that it contains colostrum (“pre milk” first food for all mammals) that is a huge source of bio-active (meaning highly absorbable) peptides and which is rarely found in conventional protein powders.

Probiotics – Klaire Labs’ Ther Biotic D & Ther Biotic Infant Formula

I find that Klaire Labs have some of the best probiotics products that I’ve come across so far. My wife and myself both take Ther-Biotic D, which contains 50+ billion CFUs. Our daughter takes the Ther-Biotic Infant Formula which contains 10+ billion CFUs and is specifically designed for an infant’s immature system. Both of these products provide strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotic species to support the body’s detoxification process by metabolizing and/or reducing the uptake of toxins in the gut, facilitating the elimination of toxins and byproducts from the intestinal tract. It’s important to not only get a product that’s high in CFUs but that also contains the right assortment of strains to provide optimal support for your body.

Fish Oil – BioGenesis Omega 3 6 9 Emulsion

I absolutely love this product! It is a pharmaceutical grade fish oil that is a well tolerated essential fatty acid supplement that actually tastes really, really good. It is highly absorbable and is found to be more bioavailable than capsules. BioGenesis Omega 3-6-9 Emulsion contains 360 mg of EPA and 360 mg of DHA per serving. The product contains purified salmon oil and cod liver oil which are both great sources of EPA and DHA. There you have it – my personal recommendations for those of you who asked! These supplement products are pharmaceutical grade and should only be purchased from a physician. Our clinic does carry them so for those of you who are interested, you can contact me to order them (we ship across Canada). As for the sunscreen, my wife orders it online but it is available from both American and Canadian retailers. Thank you to everyone who has been reading these posts and passing on the site to friends and family. Even more importantly – your questions, comments, and feedback help me figure out which topics to discuss so please keep them coming! Make sure you subscribe to the site so that you get the latest posts!
